Ksenia Afanasyeva Competing At the Russian Championships

After much back and forth, it is confirmed that Ksenia Afanasyeva will indeed be competing at the upcoming Russian Championships in Penza.

Yesterday, Team Russia - Gymnastics on Facebook confirmed that Ksenia, the 2013 European floor champion, will return to competition at the Russian Championships. She will only be competing on the vault and not the floor or the all-around.

Ksenia had surgery on her ankle last fall that caused her to miss the world championships in Antwerp, Belgium. Later, she found that the surgery was not successful and flew to Germany to have a second surgery.

A couple of weeks ago, the Russian version of Marta Karolyi, Valentina Rodionenko had said that Ksenia was looking toward a comeback at the Russian Championships and a return to the European Championships on vault and floor. Of course all of this was news to Ksenia. She found a link to the interview on VK (Russian Facebook) and quickly set the rumor straight.

Ksenia is also expected to return to the European Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria this May. Again, she's only expected to be competing vault.
