Brazilian Gymnast Lais Souza Severly Injured In a Skiing Accident

After a skiing accident in Utah, two-time Brazilian Olympic gymnast, Lais Souza is in critical condition.



Per the Associated Press, Lais, 25,  sustained the injury Monday, Jan. 27, after running into a tree while skiing in Salt Lake City. Lais represented Brazil  at the 2004 & 2008 Olympics. Lais recently announced she'd represent Brazil in aerial skiing at the 2014 Sochi Olympics and had only been training for a few months. She's unable to feel her arms and legs and is only able to breathe with the assistance of a breathing machine.

As a gymnast, she helped Brazil qualify an entire team to the Olympics in 2003 and 2007 by helping Brazil take 8th place in the team finals at the world championships in Anaheim and Stuttgart, Germany.
