The FIG has released a nominative list of competitors for Worlds. Romania, USA and Russia have both named complete teams after much speculation.
This is just a nominative list, so it is subject to change.
For USA, no real surprises:
Kyla Ross
McKayla Maroney
Simone Biles
Brenna Dowell
They decided to take the top three all arounders and McKayla Maroney, the best freaking vaulter in the world. Brenna is a pleasant addition. Hopefully, she'll be able to get that Tweddle release connection down in time for worlds. USA Gymnastics has put her on for beam and bars only, and McKayla for vault and floor. Kyla and Simone have been submitted for the all-around.
Russia:
Aliya Mustafina
Tatiana Nabieva
Maria Paseka
Viktoria Komova
So Viktoria is now slated for her grad re-appearance after injuries and a bout with supposed viral meningitis. She's only competing on beam, which is a good event for her, but she really is best on uneven bars. But with Aliya, Maria and Tatiana doing bars, the best spot for Vika to fill is beam. Speaking of Maria Paseka, she's been listed for floor exercise as well as her bars and vault. Will she fill the gold medal sized shoes that Ksenia Afanasyeva has left?
Romania:
Sandra Izbasa
Larisa Iordache
Diana Bulimar
It's like Charlie's Angels for the Romanians. Sandra is blond, so she clearly fills the Farrah Fawcett role. Then I guess that would make Octavian Bellu Charlie, but that's not relevant. Sandra is competing on floor and vault. The Kate Jackson and Cheryl Ladd duo, Diana and Larisa are competing in the all-around. Larisa is a definite contender for a spot on that podium especially after the year she's had. But don't count Diana out. She's a feisty little thing and she did win the all-around at the Dutch Friendly last weekend and she beat out Sandra for the floor title. If she upgrades her bars and vault (or maybe just her vault), she could take an all around title and cause an upset.
